Lights, Camera, Action – the Merchant City’s the Star!

The Merchant City has had a starring role in many films and TV series and is set to take centre stage again when BBC3’s new series Lip Service airs in the spring.

The series, tipped to be the UK’s answer to The L Word, stars Laura Fraser and follows a group of 20- something lesbians living in Glasgow.  The action takes place in and around the Merchant City and producers say it makes the area look at cool as New York. Locations including Candleriggs; Trans Europe Cafe and Guy’s restaurant were used extensively for scenes.

Other recent productions filmed around the local area include comedian Limmy’s new BBC2 comedy show ‘Limmy’s Show’ and ‘The Last Word’, Ewan McGregor’s latest vehicle.  Directed by David Mackenzie (Young Adam and Hallam Foe) the action took place in and around the Merchant City and Tontine Lane was used for filming for a few days.  Passersby were treated to the Hollywood hunk cycling past - much to their surprise and enjoyment!
