Description: Saint Andrews in the Square: Glasgow's Centre for Scottish Culture is one of the finest neo-classical buildings in Britain. One of the Merchant City's architectural gems, this former church can accommodate up to 300 people. St Andrews in the Square can boast of holding the wedding of Agnes McLehose (Clarinda), for whom Rabbie Burns wrote Ae Fond Kiss, or that Bonnie Prince Charlie's Highland Army, returning from England in 1745, camped within the semi-built walls of the Church. As a function space it is stunning, with natural light by day and glittering chandeliers after dark. The main hall is licensed for Civil Marriages, with the ceremony followed by the wedding celebration catered for by Café Source's banqueting division. This truly unique venue is in demand for ceilidhs, concerts, weddings, banquets and conferences and is equipped with state of the art audio visual and WIFI telecoms. It is home to a Wednesday night ceilidh dance class, 'Live at the Star' concerts every Thursday, a Monday evening fiddle class and regular concerts including Scottish Opera Orchestra and Cappella Nova and it's only 10 minutes from George Square. It is also one of the core venues for Celtic Connections and hosts The St Andrew's Festival annually around St Andrew's Day. It is open for free guided tours every Thursday from 10.30am to 1pm or by appointment with the venue management.
