Street Level Photoworks

Description:
Founded in 1989, Street Level photoworks provides opportunities for artists and the public to produce and participate in photography, making artisitc production accessible, both physically and intellectually, to a diverse audience. The exhibitions programme supports new artistic practices in photography and media art, by emerging and established artists with local, national and international origins. This embraces innovative photo-based image-making, video art, and installation, much of it conceptually and thematically rigorous and always poignant and diverse. There is an award winning collaborations programme of outreach projects whose process and outcomes bring out the creativity of others as well as celebrating their diversity.
Street Level also provides training in photography and offers the public access to traditional darkroom and print finishing facilities. These facilities will be expanding and improving in the near future as part of the Trongate 103 development.
Recent projects include solo shows by EJ Major, Stephen Healy, and Marjolaine Ryley: a commisson for the Caravan Gallery in partnership with the The Merchant City Initiative; a publication 'In Pubs' by Stuart Murray; the website resource Dotcrawl; and Multi-Story, a collaborative community project and artist-in-residence initiative in North Glasgow. Street Level recently curated the visual arts programme of Radiance, Glasgow's Festival of Light, which featured a number of temporary light-based and site-specific artworks in 'hidden' spaces and empty shop units in the Merchant City.
