Tobacco Merchant's House

Description: Restored by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust in 1995, this pretty little classical house is the last surviving tobacco laird's house left standing in the Merchant City. Badly altered and ruinous when the Trust acquired it, the restored building now provides a home for many of the City's leading architectural and amenity organisations including GBPT itself and the Scottish Civic Trust. Across the narrow wynd is the Italianate facade of the original Stirling Library by James Smith.
