Sports Heritage in Glasgow
Dr Fiona Skillen, University of Central Lancashire, will explore the development of public sports provision in Glasgow from the mid-Victorian period to the early 20th century. She will examine the types of amenities provided, the factors which motivated the corporation to provide them and the ways in which they were used by citizens.
Dr Richard Haynes, University of Stirling, will then explain the value of film archives in understanding sports heritage. He will explore the issues involved in combining sport and film heritage projects, with a specific emphasis on their value for understanding place and community in the city.
This free event takes place at 54 Bell St, Glasgow, G1 1LQ and runs from 7pm until 9pm.
