Description
The breathtaking and spectacular City Halls complex reopened in 2006 after an extensive £15 million refurbishment. Dating back to 1841 it is the city's oldest and best loved performance and meeting space. With its traditional shoebox style, accommodating up to 1,036 people it is renowned throughout the world for having some of the finest acoustics. Many famous names have appeared in the Halls, including Charles Dickens, Dr David Livingstone, Benjamin Disraeli and more recently Billy Connolly. The Halls have a busy programme of events and the resident orchestra, The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, adds to the hive of activity alongside the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Add to this the Scottish Music Centre, a one stop shop with information for anyone interested in music and you have something for all your musical needs. The Halls also feature a restaurant and the Bazaar Bar which are open throughout the year and the building adjoins the Fruitmarket.
