Description
The African and Caribbean Network Ltd (A&CN) is a voluntary sector umbrella organisation and coordinating body for 40+ African and Caribbean communities & groups representing 2,300 people in Glasgow and the surrounding region. Since their formation in July 2005 they have successfully been working towards the establishment of an African-Caribbean Centre for cultural Heritage, Integration and Social Enterprise. This new venue in the Merchant City is available for hire and hosts various events throughout the year.
The African and Caribbean population in Glasgow, and throughout Scotland, has increased significantly since 1991 – GROS officers estimated in October 2010 that there were between 18,000 and 24,000 African and Caribbean people living in Scotland which the 2011 Census would be able to confirm – a treble from the 6,000 recorded in 2001.
