Description
The Collins Gallery is an integral part of the University of Strathclyde, presenting a cultural interface between the University and the city.
Located close to Glasgow's city centre, only five minutes' walk from the railway stations, prime shopping areas and the Gallery of Modern Art, the Collins attracts some 60,000 visitors per year from the local and tourist communities.
The annual programme of ten temporary exhibitions is broad-ranging, representing contemporary and historic, Fine and Applied Art by established and new artists throughout Britain and abroad.
Most of the exhibitions are originated by the Collins, and are complemented by educational activities for visitors of all ages and abilities: artist-led practical workshops, dance, drama, music, lectures and conferences. These events attract some 4,000 participants, including children of nursery age upwards, students, vocational students of more mature years and specialists.
The Collins Gallery is also a popular venue for private functions and is regularly hired for conference buffets, retirement and graduation parties and book launches by clients within and outside the University.
